Before we venture into the plant-astic world of foods to avoid, as well as include, on your vegan meal plan for weight loss, it’s important to understand the distinction between being vegan and eating a plant-based diet. Anorectic drugs should be reserved for those who are clinically at risk from being overweight, and then only as part of a comprehensive weight-reducing programme including regular dietary counselling. Although current licensing regulations only allow their use over a relatively short period (12 to 16 weeks), clinical trials have shown them to be effective over longer periods, particularly in preventing weight regain. Of the compounds currently indicated for use in obesity, dexfenfluramine appears to have the most suitable pharmacological profile, although it should not be given to patients with a history of depression. When used appropriately, appetite suppressants can be of real therapeutic benefit, and pose little risk.

Epidemics of fatal pulmonary hypertension and heart valve damage associated with pharmaceutical anorectic agents have led to the withdrawal of products from the market. This was the case with aminorex in the 1960s, and again in the 1990s with fenfluramine (see: Fen-phen).[5] Likewise, association of the related appetite suppressant phenylpropanolamine with hemorrhagic stroke led the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to request its withdrawal from the market in the United States in 2000, and similar concerns regarding ephedrine resulted in an FDA ban on its inclusion in dietary supplements in 2004. I have tried several different weight loss teas recently and this one would be my favourite. I like that this set comes with four different types of teas, each type recommending the time of day that you drink it. The morning blend is pu-erh, oolong and green teas. The afternoon blend is pu-erh, oolong and white tea. The evening blend which is my favourite is chickweed, mint and raspberry. And the night tea is billberry. The morning tea gives you extra energy with green tea having caffeine in it and the evening and night time teas are more herbal so as to not keep you up at night. I have sampled them all already and they each have an herbal but subtly different taste. I enjoy the taste of all of them. The container comes with 60 individually wrapped bags. The box is marked with a clear manufacturing date of April 2015 and an expiration date of April 2020, giving you plenty of time to drink all of the tea. The product has not been evaluated by FDA however. The instructions indicate drinking the tea 15-30 minutes before meals which has been known to help reduce appetite or as needed throughout the day when your hunger cravings may be strongest. The bags are to be steeped for 5-7 minutes before drinking. It suggests you can also drink this tea over ice, which I have not yet tried but definitely will when the warmer weather comes. But all this was rather abstract. I wanted to see how real people living in the 21st century would do on the simple diet plan. I decided to recruit some volunteers at my gym to test the diet. I guess I was born with a good appetite, and have always been a little bigger than the other kids. But as I grew the nurse began to comment on my weight, talked about the My Plate model, and that I should move more and eat less. This sounds so easy, but it wasn’t.
