Plant-based nutrition isn’t just anchored in wholesome plant foods such as fruits, veggies, legumes, grains and nuts, but is also the elimination of all kinds of animal products and by-products from your diet. Plant-based eating is one of many parts of a vegan lifestyle. Embracing veganism goes beyond just what we eat but also rejects the consumption and use of any goods  — clothes, cosmetics, furnishings etc. – originating from or tested on animals.
Star anise, the fruit of a small evergreen tree (Illicium verum) native to China, can be used in the treatment of digestive troubles such an upset stomach, diarrhea, nausea etc. One may drink a tea made from it by steeping a whole pod in one cup of hot water for 10 minutes. Strain this and sweeten it if required. Sip on this slowly when an upset stomach occurs.
Notes: Chop the sweet potatoes and halve the Brussels sprouts, and place on a sheet pan. Drizzle with 2 teaspoons olive oil, season with salt and pepper, and toss to coat. Roast at 450°F (230°C) until tender, about 15 minutes. Season the steak with salt and pepper. In a frying pan over medium-high heat, warm 1 teaspoon olive oil. A study published in Advances in Nutrition found that catechins boost the liver's ability to burn body fat into energy. The study examined participants who worked out at least 25 minutes every day. During the study, half of the participants consumed four to five cups of tea per day. The participants that drank green tea lost an average of 2 pounds more than those that only exercised.

Chamomile tea is obtained from the flowers of M. chamomilla (10). It has anti-inflammatory, antidepressant, sleep-inducing, and anti-anxiety properties (11), (12). Depression, anxiety, inflammation, and sleep deprivation have a direct relation to weight gain. Scientists have found that the presence of phenolic compounds, such as quercetin, luteolin, apigenin, patuletin, and their glucosides, in chamomile tea is responsible for its anti-obesity properties (13). A study also showed that chamomile tea could lower blood sugar levels (14).
Dr. Kohnke and his team then tested thylakoid in humans and found that it also acts as a natural appetite suppressant in normal-weight people.[3] Eleven subjects ate a high-fat meal (a sandwich with thylakoid-rich pesto or regular pesto). Afterwards, levels of three different appetite signaling hormones were altered in those given the thylakoid-rich sandwiches. Two hours after the meal, they showed significant increases in the satiety hormone cholecystokinin compared to those who did not eat a thylakoid-rich sandwich. They also had reduced levels of the hunger hormone ghrelin, a hormone secreted by adipose tissue (fat cells) that tells you you’re hungry. Six hours after the meal, they had significant increases in ghrelin’s opposite hormone—leptin—which also control’s appetite by telling you you’re full. The fact that thylakoid increased leptin levels in the blood six hours after eating is important because leptin is crucial for regulating calorie intake between meals and over longer periods of time.
According to a 2015 Journal of Food Biochemistry study, foeniculum vulgare–better known as fennel–has major inflammation-fighting properties. DON'T simply switch out your meat and dairy for vegan meat and dairy substitutes (soy meats and cheeses). While it is okay to occasionally eat these foods if you go vegan and have NO weight to lose (always buy organic or non-GMO soy foods), it's not ideal if you DO have weight to lose. Rosemary is a popular aromatic herb used in cooking. It is obtained from the plant Rosmarinus officinalis and has spike-like leaves. Research on rosemary leaf and extracts have been carried out, and they were found to have strong antioxidant properties (20). Researchers also found that rosemary tea had an antidepressant property (21). Both these properties are good for promoting weight loss.

When I was a little girl, my mom and I would sit on our living room couch and talk about life over tea. It's still something we do to this very day. Not only does tea bring me fond memories, it gives me a little bit of calm when I need it. After an anxiety-inducing day or to start my mornings off right, I always heat up my kettle. Notes: Defrost the shrimp under cool running water and pat dry. In a nonstick pan over medium-high heat, toss the shrimp with a little all-natural cooking spray, and cook until bright pink, tightly furled, and warmed through. You need to consume a variety of vegetables and fruits to obtain all the necessary nutrients and minerals required by the body. Have papaya, apple, grapes, grapefruit, lime, lemon, orange, plum, pear, pluots, figs, peach, blueberries, strawberries, starfruit, green apple, watermelon, and muskmelon. Have mangoes in moderation.
Although many herbs used in herbal teas are generally recognized as safe, always chat with your doctor before using herbal tea for weight loss, especially if you’re breast-feeding. The safety of some herbs, such as chamomile and ginger, has not been established for breast-feeding women or individuals with kidney or liver disease. Furthermore, some herbs -- when consumed in high amounts -- may interact with certain medications.
My rule of thumb is this: If it's not water or unsweetened tea, your beverage should count as part of your meal or snack. One vegan client who found she wasn't losing weight was drinking a smoothie along with her lunch salad. Unknowingly, she was essentially consuming two lunches every day. Another client didn't realize that the healthy (and expensive) beverages she drank twice a day in lieu of soda contained about 300 calories total. That may not sound like a ton, but it would take a one-hour speed walk to burn off just those drinks.
While manufacturers of weight loss pills continue to promote the convenience and rapid results associated with their products, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and other health authorities warn against their use. Some of the main reasons that appetite-suppressing weight loss pills are considered to be at least somewhat dangerous include medication interactions, tainted or unlisted ingredients, high amounts of caffeine, and fillers or synthetic additives that cause negative reactions, just to name few.
