Sleep’s a big deal. Losing a mere hour of shut-eye over the course of three days is enough to negatively impact the body’s hunger and appetite-regulating hormone, ghrelin. Quality sleep, on the other hand, fuels the production of fat-burning hormones, making it a top priority if you’re trying to drop a few pounds. Valerian is an herb that’s long been valued as a mild sedative, and now research is showing what tea enthusiasts have known for centuries. In a study of women, researchers gave half the test subjects a valerian extract, and half a placebo. Thirty percent of those who received valerian reported an improvement in the quality of their sleep, versus just 4 percent of the control group. Sleep deprived? Here’s Your One Day-Plan for Better Sleep.
Loving your body is fine but being fat is so unhealthy! Diabetes, heart disease, some cancers, Alzheimer — well, I’ll stop preaching. Recipes all look wonderful. One thing I’ve found is that so often frying onions is the first step. I have a griddle and instead of pouring oil into a frying pan I spray a bit of oil on my griddle, grill the sliced onions, peppers whatever. They give off enough moisture that you can just put them into the un-oiled frying pan and proceed with the recipe minus a bunch of calories..
The researchers hypothesize that participants who abstained from animal products dropped significantly more pounds since plant-based foods include loads of filling fiber and slow-to-digest complex carbs. Though more research is needed to confirm these results, the study authors write, "Vegetarian diets appeared to have significant benefits on weight reduction compared to non-vegetarian diets."
Participants in the green tea extract group also had improvements in cholesterol levels and elevated levels of adiponectin compared to the placebo group. Low levels of adiponectin have been tied to problems like insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome and increased inflammation. EGCG, the most abundant green tea catechin and a powerful bioactive constituent, has also been shown to act like a cancer-fighting compound and promote thermogenic activities in studies, therefore decreasing fat cell proliferation and helping burn body fat for energy. Ashwagandha tea gives you a better outlook on life and reduces stress hormones that can wreak havoc on your waistline. A study published in the *Indian Journal of Psychological Medicine* found that “Ashwagandha root extract safely and effectively improves an individual's resistance towards stress and thereby improves self-assessed quality of life.” When it comes to weight loss, stress is not your friend. A recent study at Penn State found that people who react badly to stressful situations have increased levels of inflammation in their bodies—and inflammation is directly tied to obesity, as well as diseases like diabetes, heart disease and cancer. When anxiety rides high, you’re also at the mercy of stress hormones such as cortisol—known as “the belly fat hormone” for its ability to pull lipids from the bloodstream and store them in our fat cells.
Oolong tea’s major weapon against weight gain is its ability to prevent fat absorption. Japanese scientists found that high levels of antioxidants called polymerized polyphenols, specific to oolong tea, inhibit the body’s ability to absorb fat by up to 20 percent. When Taiwanese researchers studied more than 1,100 people over a 10-year period, they determined that those who drank black, green or oolong tea one or more times a week had nearly 20 percent less body fat than those who drank none. And oolong tea fights blood pressure, cutting the risk by as much as a whopping 65 percent! Want to turn up your fat burning oven even more? Check out these Foods that Burn Belly Fat and Help Speed Weight Loss.
Pu Erh tea is named after the town Pu’er in the Yunnan province in China. And guess what – this tea is also obtained from Camellia sinensis. This is a specially fermented tea and is also known as black tea. Scientists have found that Pu Erh tea has lipid-lowering properties, and it helps reduce weight in patients with metabolic syndrome (28), (29).

Fermented foods: These enhance the function of good bacteria while inhibiting the growth of bad bacteria. Sauerkraut, kimchi, kefir, yogurt, tempeh, and miso all contain good amounts of probiotics, which help to increase good bacteria. Researchers have studied kimchi widely, and study results suggest that it has anti-obesity effects. Similarly, studies have shown that kefir may help to promote weight loss in overweight women.
There's some scientific evidence that compounds in saffron could have beneficial metabolic effects on blood sugar, cholesterol, and potentially impact weight, says Rekha Kumar, MD, endocrinologist at the Comprehensive Weight Control Center at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center. "That doesn’t mean putting [saffron] in a lollipop and telling people to eat it is a healthy approach to weight loss, body image, or nutrition," Dr. Kumar says.
Who says you shouldn’t eat less than 1800 kcals? Under normal circumstances, the minimum is 1200 for women, 1500 for men, and height and weight have no bearing – these are what the body requires to avoid starvation. This diet is, however, for 7 days only, it is not intended as a long-term weight-loss strategy, so 6 days at less than 1500 won’t do you any harm. You don’t say how tall you are, or what you do for a living, which would also have a bearing on your long-term weight-loss plans. Good luck with it, anyway – it’s not easy

Being vegetarian works in favor of good health and metabolism. Though chicken and eggs are a rich source of protein, they are not the only ones. Vegetarians can cover their daily requirement of protein with different grains and legumes. Research says that an entire daily meal need not be protein-based. As long as your body gets its quota of 55 grams of protein every day, you are good. Lentils, chickpeas, black beans, nuts, tofu, and quinoa are some of the richest sources of protein. They are easy to digest and have the right balance of amino acids that your body needs.

Fenugreek seeds soaked in water help boost metabolism and flush out toxins. Muesli with fruits, chia seeds, honey, and full-fat milk will help keep your hunger pangs at bay for at least 2 hours. Multigrain biscuit is rich in dietary fiber, which will prevent fat absorption. Green tea has no calories and has antioxidant properties. Have a satiating salad for lunch. Pistachios aid weight loss and are rich in healthy fats. Orange juice is loaded with vitamin C that nullifies the free oxygen radicals. Furthermore, insulin levels were reduced in those subjects eating the thylakoid-rich meal, while blood sugar levels remained unchanged. This means less insulin was needed to keep the blood sugar response normal in these healthy individuals. When the insulin response is exaggerated, such as in those with metabolic syndrome, you’re more likely to experience blood sugar swings with episodes of reactive hypoglycemia, leading to increased hunger a couple of hours after eating. Higher insulin responses are also associated with increased belly fat and inflammation, raising the risk of heart disease and other chronic diseases.
Everything is good about a vegetarian diet. It includes wholesome and balanced foods that get digested easily and boost metabolism. A vegetarian diet is often the best solution to combat chronic disorders, obesity, allergies, blood pressure, and skin diseases. It lowers the risk of cancer and helps women with hormonal imbalances. People who opt for a vegetarian diet have higher energy and are less prone to diseases that originate from being overweight. Vegetarians are also calmer and live a longer, healthier life when compared to non-vegetarians. Consuming nutritious, fibrous, and antioxidant-rich meals is the best way to achieve good health.
Whether salty foods or alcohol are to blame for your blimp-like belly, lemon tea can help fight the bloat thanks to its d-limonene content. The compound, which is found in citrus rind oil, has been used for its diuretic effects since ancient times. But until recently, there were no scientific findings to back the claims. An animal study published in the Journal of the Pharmaceutical Society of Japan confirmed D-Limonene can indeed banish bloat due to water retention.

The only diet medication which is currently licensed in the UK as safe and effective is orlistat, which is a lipase inhibitor. This means that it reduces the amount of energy that you take in from the fat contained in foods that you eat, and the undigested fat is passed along with your faeces. It doesn’t suppress the appetite, but instead works by preventing up to a third of the fat that you eat from being absorbed by the body.
